How Does the Course Work?
This course is conducted telephonically and consists of readings, written assignments, and discussions with faculty and other participants. When requested, a grade letter will be awarded upon completion of this course. Upon registering, you will be contacted by PBI staff to schedule your individual coursework.
Additional modules can be added to fit the educational needs of the participant, such as anger management, classroom management, and others. This requires a discussion with PBI staff and coordination with consultants for pre-approval and a cost adjustment. Please call us 904-800-1237 for more information.

The goal of this course is to re-establish a firm, ethical foundation and to demonstrate a commitment to an Ethics Protection Plan for safeguarding students, schools, and teachers.
During the TE-16 course, participants will:
- Gain an understanding of moral authority and ethical decision making.
- Understand the relationship between ethical content and ethical process.
- Review codes and laws relevant to their specific offense.
- Communicate the harm done from ethical/legal violations.
- Identify and define violation potentials for ethical issues utilizing the Ethics Formula.
- Create an Ethics Protection Plan to maintain and safeguard professional ethics.
- Learn to utilize peer group discussions for ethical dilemma resolution.
Course Certificate of Completion
A 16-contact-hour certificate of completion will be available upon completion of the course.
This course is intended for educators and administrators who have committed (or have been accused of) ethical violations of an administrative and relationship nature as defined by codes of ethics, state administrative statute, and school policies.
Violations that will typically precipitate a referral to this course include, but are not limited to:
- Sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, and sexual misconduct
- False, fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading documentation of professional status
- False or malicious statements toward colleagues
- Attempting to obtain a teaching certificate by fraud or misrepresentation
- Using one’s name to cover the actions of another not authorized to teach
- Falsification of student records
- Misleading or deceptive communication with regulatory boards
- Covering or failure to acknowledge previous disciplinary action
- Teaching below minimal standards
- Discrimination based on race, color, creed, sex, national origin, marital status, political or religious beliefs, family, social or cultural background, or sexual orientation
- Acceptance of gifts, favors, or gratuities that impair or appear to influence professional decisions or actions
- Conflicts of Interest
- Dual Relationships that compromise a teacher role
Course Agenda With Timeline
Readings (2 hours)
Course readings will cover important issues related to our TE-16 course philosophy, focusing on an in-depth understanding of ethical issues in the workplace and how to identify them. Topics will include:
- The Issues
- Ethics/Law Overview
- Underlying Foundation
- Concept of Moral Authority
- Assignment: Research and review Statutes and Code of Ethics Related to the offense (1 hour)
- Assignment: Educator Self-Assessment Tool ESAT (1 hour)
Telephone Consultation and Follow Up (1.75 hours)
Once you have completed your assignment to research and review statuses and codes of ethics related to the offense and finished the Educator Self-Assessment Tool (ESAT) above, both assignments will be submitted to PBI for telephone review with faculty. This review is one hour long and will cover both assignments including feedback from your instructor.
After the review, you will complete an additional reading titled "Ethics Formula: Understanding violation potentials by assessing risk factors, personal and professional vulnerabilities, accountability, and resistances." Following this reading you will complete an additional formula exercise which takes about 45 minutes.
Assignments and Teleseminars (8.5 hours)
The second part of the course focuses on readings and assignment designed to prevent future problems and ethical violations. You will learn how to identify risk factors, avoid potentially problematic scenarios and feel confident in your plan for the future. THese readings will include:
- Understanding Vulnerabilities and Seeking Forgiveness (1 hour)
- Assignment: Ethics Protection Plan: Preventing future problems (30 minutes)
- Assignment: Paper on the summary of ethical violation, growth and plan (2 hours)
After completing these readings and assignments, you will attend five sessions of our Ethics: Maintenance and Accountability tele-seminars. These seminars are offered every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:15pm - 8:15pm and are conducted by our trained instructors. This grants you an additional 5 hours of instruction and helps cement the strategies learned throughout the course.
Final Evaluation (1 hour)
After completing all the coursework, you will complete three final evaluations to summarize everything you learned as a participant in the TE-16 course. This final evaluation has three steps:
- Assignment: Post-Test (20 minutes)
- Telephonic review with PBI faculty (30 minutes)
- Assignment: Course Evaluation (10 minutes)
